The interstate battery sale is going on through March 31st. 35% of each Scouts sales will be deposited into their personal Scout Account. Scout Accounts can be used to pay for monthly outings, summer camp and camping related supplies. Selling batteries now can take the burden off Mom and Dad in the future. Remember, a scout pays his own way.
The SUMC Men’s club will be holding a Flounder Fish Fry in conjunction with the annual fall festival. The fish will be served from 11:00 am until 7:00 pm. The scouts are asked to be in uniform, we will assist the Men’s club as needed. The proceeds from this Fundraiser will be used for our Scout Room!! The Fall Festival will be held both days, October 22-23. Come and see scores of crafters from throughout the region offering a wide variety of hand made items. The boys will be assisting with clean up and other general duties and are expected in Class A uniforms. Both events will count towards service hours.
Our boys have voted to assist Pack 853 with their Webeloree at Myrtle Beach State Park on October 9th and 10th. We will be camping at Myrtle Beach State Park on Friday and Saturday Night, with the Webeloos. We will have duties for each patrol on Saturday. We will meet at the church on Saturday morning. This is a base camp trip, boys are expected to have the scout essentials as well as any overnight gear they will need. Patrols will assign someone to shop for food and tents will be provided by the Troop.
Troop 853 will be camping at Myrtle Beach State Park on Saturday, August 28th. We will meet at the church on Saturday morning. This is a base camp trip, boys are expected to have the scout essentials as well as any overnight gear they will need. Food and tents will be provided by the Troop.
Thursday June 17. Troop 853 will have its first Court of Honor, an important occasion for our troop at which time all scouts who have advanced will be honored. All family members of all the scouts, plus our committee members and their spouses, and our ministers are invited to attend the C.O.H ceremony in the church sanctuary at 6PM, followed by an ice cream social at the picnic shelter. Our troop will be going to Camp Coker three days later on June 20.
Great news for our young Troop 853. Mr. Wes has found us an excellent fundraiser and service project all wrapped in one! We will be reclaiming some used wood this weekend, and we will be building picnic tables for sale at the Church! This will be a great construction project for the boys and will raise a little money for the gear we need.
The wood left over will be used to build tables for the state park and to rebuild a bridge at Halfway Creek Trail Camp. This was the location of our very first camping trip and there was a bridge that was in serious need of work. Several of the boys commented that we should come back and rebuild the bridge, and now we have the wood to do it.
Exciting times!
